GWAR: Battle Maximus

If you thought that the sad demise of guitarist Flattus Maximus would mean a more introspective, melancholy GWAR you would be wrong, very wrong indeed. Yes they remain supremely ridiculous as is the concept behind the album, namely GWAR's battle with, "the insidious "Mr. Perfect", who has travelled through time itself to steal the power of GWAR--the power of immortality, and use this power to mutate the human race into his twisted vision of what the "perfect" human should be."

Song wise we get the usual helter-skelter thrash-based punky-metal GWAR stuff that quite frankly one either loves or hates. Thirteen albums in it is a moot point as to whether this is as good as any other point in their history although I'd say that "Triumph of the Pig Children" and "Fly Now" (I love the way in which Oderus Urungus pronounces the word, "cosmos," as if he was a posh Englishman) both stand up with the rest of their catalogue quite nicely even if not all of the album does. If you are a fan of all things GWAR there are some top quality GWAR moments here but if you've avoided them thus far you'll probably continue to do so.
