Vortech: Devoid of Life

Finnish Industrial Death Metal band, Vortech, veterans of 5 Full length albums and 3 EP's, have independently released a new disc entitled, Devoid of Life. This 9 track CD is filled with fast, mechanical and industrial sounds filled with atmospheric layered keyboards that blends their music somewhere in-between Industrial and Black Metal.

CD opener, "The Black Rite", has a heavy riff filled with chaotic drumming against a futuristic tapestry, while the next track, "Neurovirus" adds a dash of Synth programming to push it over the top as a cleverly crafted tune. All the while heavy and bombastic with blast beat drumming throughout most of this disc; Vortech still manages to create some catchy fodder with an interesting, almost trippy like feel. A tune like "The Apocalypse" is an welcome departure from the pack, with its slow and brooding, almost Type O Negative like vibe with synth layers bringing in an element that is completely offset from the speed of light bashing, adding texture from the otherwise overkill.

To call Devoid of Life aggressive would be the understatement of the year, but the added atmospheric elements take this Industrial Black Metal somewhere else. Don't get me wrong, the hyper fast blast beating can not be contained for long, which leads me to say that if you are a fan of this type of thing you will probably enjoy it, but if not, it will almost certainly be too much for you. Complex and intense are the first words that come to mind to describe Vortech, decide for your self.
