Helker: Somewhere In The Circle

South America is of course home to some seriously talented and well established metal acts of different stylings and more continue to appear. Now there is the band Helker looking to make a wider impact with a great slab of metal called Somewhere In The Circle. I say wider as while this is actually Helker's fourth album since their beginnings in 1998, Somewhere In The Circle marks the first time they have also recorded an album in English.

Style wise Helker perform with a style very likely to appeal to anyone who likes those heavy melodic metal bands such as Brainstorm, Dio, Primal Fear and Firewind. Somewhere In The Circle's sonic potency has been appropriately captured, musician/producer Matt Sinner produced and also co-wrote the album.

Halken's powerful musicianship is enthusiastically revealed on "Modern Roman Circus" and it sure does sound fantastic as Helker thunders along. Their singer Diego Valdez reminds so very much of Ronnie James Dio with his similar vocal style. In fact if I was listening to "No Chance To Be Reborn" without knowing the band I would just assume it was in fact a recording by Dio. And while on the subject of vocalists Tim "Ripper" Owens (Yngwie Malmsteen, ex. Judas Priest and Iced Earth) and Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear) appear on the song "Begging For Forgiveness" generating a powerful vocal trio when their mighty voices combine for the chorus. Helker carry on impressing with songs like "Wake Up" and "Ghosts From The Past".

Helker's Somewhere In The Circle has plenty of sizzling metal on offer, and who wants to pass up an opportunity to hear one of the better metal groups.
