10cc were one of the most successful acts of the '70s, delivering a slew of stunning albums and hit singles that bridged the gap between pop and quirky progressive rock. In Concert is the first live DVD from the band with the line-up of founding member Graham Gouldman (vocals, bass, guitar), Mick Wilson (vocals, guitar, percussion), Rick Fenn (vocals, lead guitar, bass), Paul Burgess (drums), and Mike Stevens (keyboards, vocals, sax, guitar, bass), with surprise guest vocals from the other founding member Kevin Godley.
For the longtime fan, this DVD contains many of the classic songs & hits, including "The Things We Do For Love", "Donna", "The Wall Street Shuffle", "Life is a Minestrone", "I'm Mandy, Fly Me", "Deadlock Holiday", and of course the massive single "I'm Not in Love", each one filled with pop hooks and art rock majesty. Most of the band members play multiple instruments, so look for some switching around between them throughout the set. Wilson does a great job on the higher pitched vocals here, alowing the band to recreate all those old classic songs quite well, and Gouldman for his part still is in fine form vocally. What's interesting is a short set of songs in the middle of the concert that were written by Gouldman but given to and recorded by other artists in the '60's, like "For Your Love" (Yardbirds), "Look Through Any Window", "Bus Stop" & "No Milk Today" (The Hollies). To say this guy has been a prolific songwriter would be an understatment.
The performances by the entire band are stellar throughout (and Fenn is a marvelous guitar player I might add) and the video & sound quality of the DVD is excellent. Too bad this wasn't released on Blu-ray as it would have looked marvelous in high-definition. Plenty of extras packed into the special features too, including an interview with Gouldman where he talks about all those classic songs. This is a must see DVD for any 10cc fan, and if you haven't discovered these guys before now this will easily convert you.
