Warseid: Where Fate Lies Unbound

Warseid are one of those bands that you would expect comes from somewhere in Europe: The name sounds Scandanavian and they play folk metal crossed with black metal. Surprisingly however, the band is actually from Wisconsin. One would never guess this however if you just listened to the music as this type of sound is rarely, if ever made in the USA.

From what I can gather, Where Fate Lies Unbound is the bands second EP and fourth release overall if you count two demos that were done a few years ago. As I have never listened to the bands previous output, I have honestly no idea how it compares to their earlier efforts. However, I can say with certainty that Where Fate Lies Unbound is a solid listen through and through.

The bands sound is kind of hard to describe overall as it holds a litany of different sounds, both harsh and melodic. While folk and black metal are the predominant elements in the music, the overall sound is so much more than that, and the title is actually quite limiting as a result. Don't go into this expecting something generic sounding as you will be getting something quite different all together. At times the music is soothing and at other times it sounds like a fire-breathing beast, at all times it sounds amazing. Those who don't like black metal "croaky" vocals should also find something to like here as occasionally the vocals switch to a more "clean" approach which adds a nice contrast to the music.

The album can be downloaded as a "name your price" download on Bandcamp so check it out and then purchase a copy of the limited edition of the CD before they sell out.
