Malignancy: Eugenics

After forty nine seconds of radio noise and snippets of music, this humorous yet pointless intro gives way to thirty two minutes of savage, ruthless and brutal technical death metal. An unremitting bombardment of dense and dirty grooves and relentlessly technical musicianship, an array of hyperactive riffs peppered with plenty of squealing harmonics abound across the album's countless dynamic shifts. Despite the riffs rumble largely in the lower end of the sonic spectrum, the clarity of the instruments is effectively balanced. Instead of the usual murky guitar tones that overshadow the almost non-existent bass, we get solid and angry tones from both instruments, Roger J. Beaujard's incredible bass prowess surfacing sporadically amid the muck and mire. Thus, Mike Heller's drumming is given enough space to allow his creativity to shine through and the sheer weight of the hefty tracks truly felt. The technically impressive riffs are jarring, the guitar tone harsh, the vomited vocals a sludge of slime and depravity, the bass heavier than King Kong's first dump of the day, and the drums an intense blur of might. If the world's against you and you want something to smash it to bits with, put this on. The damage done by Eugenics is irreparable. Even the Hulk wouldn't know what hit him.
