Ufomammut: ORO- Opus Alter

Generally before I listen to an album that I am sent for review I read the press release/bio that accompanies the album. I do this so that I have a bit of a background information on the band and their concept for the album. Sometimes the press release will also go over lyrical concepts as well, which is cool as most promo copies don't contain lyrics.

Apparently ORO: Opus Alter is the second part of a series, the first being ORO: Opus Primum. Obviously that's not the confusing part. The confusing part is that according to the press release "Oro explores the concept of knowledge and its power; the magical stream controlled by the human mind to gain control of every single particle of the world surrounding us.ORO is the alchemichal process to transform the human fears into pure essence; into gold." Allrighty then.

Now, the strange part is that although the album is apparently the second part of a concept album, the album is largely instrumental. Yeah sure, there are some odd sounding vocals that pop up here and there but the main focus seems to be on crushing the living shit out of anyone and anything in their path with some heavy as hell doom.

Sound-wise this is fantastic with heavy bass and thunderous riffs with some weird sound affects thrown in for good measure. This is the type of stuff that people who like it heavy and strange will love.
