Not to be confused with the German thrash band of the same name, England's Vendetta return with their latest platter of classic melodic metal for Lion Music titled World Under Fire. Though straying a bit from the normal Lion Music formula of progressive metal & instrumental shred guitar, World Under Fire does have plenty of explosive fretwork to go along with crisp 80's styled metal songs and vocals that wouldn't sound out of place on a Winger or Firehouse album.
Though originality certainly isn't Vendetta's strong point, it's hard not to like what's on display here if you are a melodic metal fan. Edward Box & Pete Thompson lay down some crunchy riffage throughout, and there are some flashy and quite tasty solos as well. Box has a good voice, and as I mentioned he's squarely out of the mid-late 80's mold of metal singers. Tunes like "Veil of Empathy" and " Machtpolitik" are quite catchy with just enough punch, and "Lords of Chaos", "Fragmented Reality", and "We Are Legion" provide the albums best headbanging moments.
World Under Fire is a nice addition to the recent releases from Lion Music, and a safe bet for those who crave 80's inspired melodic metal and hard rock. It won't 'set the world on fire', but there are plenty of guitar fireworks and hooks for those who like their metal on the melodic side.
