There can't be much in music which is more niche than the guitar album. Generally, I can take or leave them and whilst I find A Tribute to Modern Guitar enjoyable I can't imagine that it is one that I shall select as essential listening. As with most records in the genre there is a tendency for the riff-wankery to go overboard and for everything to descend into a fret-fest and certainly there are moments on A Tribute to Modern Guitar where things get a bit bloated but overall things stay on the right side of overindulgence. Like for instane towards the end of "Junkie Foot" but overall things here are more restrained than on similar records and if you need sixty-seven minutes of guitar in one go, have a listen to this one.
