Intensus: Intensus

Not sure how to describe this little 'project' from multi-instrumentalist Eli Litwin (Knife the Glitter, Burden, Normal Love) and the folks at Metal Blade Records, but it's kind of a mish mash of hardcore, avant-garde, noise, mathcore, metal, screamo, punk, and deathcore. Sixteen tracks, most no longer than three minutes long, and the entire set features a wide variety of vocalists from the scene, including Between the Buried and Me's Tommy Rogers, Robert Meadows from A Life Once Lost, and a slew of others. For the most part, it's a puzzling listen, with disjointed arrangements pummeling the listener and the screaming, grunting, and growling vocals just all over the place, making for an almost uncomfortable listen at times. One track just leads into another, and there's not much to differentiate any of them, with even the singers all just screaming up a storm and not offering any variety. Rogers does the most with what he has, offering up at least something of note on the pummeling "Outlast Robinsum" and the grinding closer "I'm a Wisdom". In the end, Intensus had the potential to be a good idea and quite 'intense', but it's really all just a lot of noise.
