Sayers, Hadden: Hard Dollar

Hadden Sayers is a Texas blues troubadour who moved to Central Ohio. "Hadden Sayers he knew that sometimes an honest dollar is a hard dollar. He released his own records independently and lugged a battered '57 Strat all over the world as he performed 200 shows annually" (http://haddensayers.com/#navigate-bio, 2011).

The Hadden Sayers Band is made up of Sayers, on lead guitar and vocals, Tony McClung on drums, Mark Frye on bass and Fender Rhodes, and Dave DeWitt on Hammond B-3, Wurlitzer and piano.

This is a great collection of blues, rock and rockabilly originals with classic styling and sounds. There are some classic Stevie/Jimmy Ray Vaughan/ZZ Top influenced moments throughout. The piano, keys drums and bass are a great support throughout. Hadden Sayers has an original sounding voice which helps add to the originality and sincerity in the music. The highlights for me were "Burning Up", with that inspired harmonica and the epic slow blues power of "Room 155", which brought back memories of some of SRV's classics. "Back to the Blues", with Ruthie Foster is another great song which brings back memories of some of Bonnie Raitt's classic duets. The instrumental keyboard and guitar phenomena "Moneyshot" is an excellent way to close the album.
