The Intersphere are a young, hard-gigging band from Germany who are making an impact on the rock music scene there with their powerful rock songs laden with catchy riffs. Comparisons with Muse are pehaps a little premature but, nevertheless, the band's rock soundscape is easy on the ear. Other self-quoted references are to Dredg and Incubus, but as I am not familiar with those bands' music, I cannot comment. They did bring to my mind, however, stable-mates Vonassi, whose debut album I enjoyed verymuch last year; the riffing rhythmic approach was occasionally similar.
To me, they sound like a good old fashioned rock band who can put together some great riffs: however, given the modern penchant for labels, the band's own promotional material uses a bedazzling array of styles to describe the music on the album: "art rock mixed with alternative...powerful post-rock modern" to which they mix "a bit of spring reverb that floats the psychedelic guitars and creates a sound that is beyond hippie beatitude". Got it?
The band are a four piece comprising Christoph Hessler (vocals), Thomas Zipner (guitar), Sebastian Wagner (bass) and Moritz Müller (drums). No keyboards then, so the soundscape is more sparse than you'll find in most bands claiming to be "art-rock", although there is a string arrangement with "Snapshot".
Basically, this is a fine album of catchy rock: if the band can work on developing the melodic strength in their music up to the same level of their rhythmic work, then they could become world-beaters!
