  • Distorted Harmony: Utopia – This band from Israel really blew me away with this stunning prog metal debut, and this currently sits as the best album I've heard this year! It's amazing to me that music of this caliber can be generously released for free through the internet.

  • Echolyn: Echolyn – These guys have long been one of my favorite modern prog bands, and their latest masterpiece secures their position as a brilliant group of musicians!

  • Jethro Tull: Full Discography – Lately I've been on a Jethro Tull binge, partially due to the fact that I'm seeing Ian Anderson live in a few months, and partially because I never really explored their discography as deeply as I should've. I've recently been purchasing all of the band's releases on vinyl, and going through a few excellent albums like Minstrel in the Gallery and Songs From The Wood that I haven't heard until only recently.

  • Frank Zappa: Studio Tan – This is one of Zappa's lesser-known albums, but it's still a great example of the man's genius. It's definitely one of the quirkier releases in his catalog.

  • Gorguts: Obscura – This Canadian death metal ensemble didn't grab me back when I first heard them, but after experiencing their music live, I've gained a new appreciation for their 1998 masterpiece. This is undoubtedly one of the strangest death metal albums from that era, and I love it!

  • Carole King: Tapestry – I'm sure this pick will strip me of all my metal credibility, but I've really been digging this album recently. I found it for only one dollar at my local record store, and ended up being very impressed by the strong songwriting and powerful musicianship exemplified on this record. It's really a shame that pop music is not up to this kind of standard anymore!

  • Stanley Clarke: Stanley Clarke (s/t) – This self-titled release from fusion bass legend Stanley Clarke is an excellent example of fiery seventies' jazz rock done right!
