Opeth - Pale Communion
The Death Metal band that no longer plays Death Metal Opeth belong in an era when bands were given the freedom to take risks and not be expected to make the same album over and over again. This new album is the natural step forward from Heritage and I'm looking forward to seeing them on the road again in a few months time.

Judas Priest - Redeemer of Souls
As summed up by our Editor the Metal Gods are back! This is classic Priest that harks back to the glory days of Stained Class and Sin After Sin and despite my misgivings over the departure of KK Downing it seems that Priest have been rejuvenated by the change in personnel.

Mastodon - Once More 'Round The Sun
Another heavyweight release that doesn't disappoint. At Sonisphere earlier this month the band played a somewhat muted set in the mid afternoon sun but we can look forward to better things when they return later in the year.

Rival Sons - Great Western Valkyrie
Another step in the right direction for RS who can seemingly do no wrong in the UK with 10/10 reviews for the album and another sold out tour looming on the horizon. Smoldering garage blues rock anthems of the finest vintage

Gigs On the Summer break now although I will be seeing Yes in Orlando in a couple of weeks time. The prize of a golden ticket that is Kate Bush at Hammersmith in September is fast approaching and then we are into the always busy run up until the end of the year with Opeth, Blackberry Smoke, Steve Rothery Band, Counting Crows and Rival Sons amongst others.
