Fair Warning: Talking Ain't Enough - Live In Tokyo

It is something of an old cliché but some bands really can claim to be "Big in Japan". One such outfit is the German Melodic Rockers Fair Warning who, aside from a five year gap from 2000, have been around for close on two decades and for whom the Far East genuinely is a fan stronghold. Available as a 3CD, 2DVD and combined 5 Disc Boxset, Talking Ain't Enough finds the band playing to the Tokyo faithful both at Loud Park in 2009 and on their standard Japanese tour earlier this year. Led by the irrepressible Tommy Heart (who addresses the crowd in Japanese on several occasions), this is Fair Warning doing what they do best – belting out a set bursting full of melodic rock gems chosen from their extensive back catalogue. High on harmonies, sing-a-long choruses and dazzling solos the German quartet sound right at home here. As with all live albums this is perhaps not one for newcomers to the band who are better pointed in the direction of 2009's Aura or 2001's A Decade of Fair Warning. But for the Fair Warning faithful this will be lapped up and rightly so.

Fair Warning: Talking Ain't Enough - Live In Tokyo

My Score:

Strangely enough Talking Ain't Enough-Live in Tokyo, the double DVD & CD set from Fair Warning, was my first experience with this German melodic metal band, and now certainly won't be the last. Containing 2 shows from Tokyo, Japan, one at Loudpark in 2009, and the other at Wel City in early 2010, each show is chock full of Fair Warning classics that both the band & fans seem to be enjoying equally.

Lead singer Tommy Heart is quite the frontman, taking control of the crowd while belting out rocking yet melodic fare such as "Angels of Heaven", "Generation Jedi", "Burning Heart", "When Love Falls", and "Save Me", all memorable hard rock tunes long on catchy hooks and crunchy guitar riffs. Speaking of guitar, lead player Helge Engelke is right out of the Uli John Roth/Michael Schenker/Ritchie Blackmore/Yngwie Malmsteen school, laying down plenty of meaty riffs and blinding, virtuoso solos. On the Loudpark set, it should be noted that former Primal Fear shredder Henny Wolter provides second guitar, and at Wel City Niklas Turmann takes over rhythm guitar duties.

The Wel City show contains a full 21 songs, and is quite the spectacular show as you get a host of selections from throughout the bands career. Toss in a fine booklet filled with live photos and you have a splendid DVD package that will be a joy to watch over and over. The triple CD set contains both shows, with Wel City sprawled out over 2 discs.

Live Fair Warning-check it out!
