To come up with a single track full length is a very daring adventure. Born Again is the latest work of France's own, Overmars. On this new epic release, Overmars have created a concept album about the principles of self-immolation, horror and rebirth.
No, this is NOT a happy piece of music, very far from it. Nothing upbeat or poppy/ sing along to be heard either. Basically, Born Again is a nightmarish soundtrack made of heavy crushing parts, separated by some ambient passages. The elements that come into play to create this huge sonic wall are: fat and strong bass, pounding drums, powerful riffs, distorted leads, various electronics and male/female vocals. The male ones are harsh spoken and sometimes robotic. As for the female counterparts, they are of a screaming/desperate style. Variation is well present during this nightmare. Slow and dark at first, depressive, suicidal and disturbed the next moment; psychedelic, mesmerizing and so on are some of the mood the listener is going through while listening this heavily emotional piece of music.
I am not very familiar with the Sludge movement, and I can understand people being turned off by this un-attractive style. Bands like Overmars have their own way to get this strange musical direction more interesting.
