If you haven't yet experienced the awesome live power of Poland's Vader, and you are a fan of brutal, technical death metal, then either get your ass to a concert venue next time they come to town, or pick up this packed to the gills DVD Night of the Apocalypse. The main concert, a 13-song set recorded on a large stage at Poland's P-Hour Studios in 2004, is a kick ass death metal extravaganza, as the band tears through such Vader classics as "Xeper", "Carnal", "Sothis", "Reign Forever World", and of course the classic "Epitaph", in front of a rabid audience. The sound is very good, the camera work and picture quality pretty decent, making for an exciting watch. Peter & Co. are one of the world's best death metal bands, and have been for some time, as they lay down furious riffs, growls that you can actually understand, wild solos, and relentless drum beats. At this taping, they were right on the money. Catch their last tune, a cover of Slayer's "Reign in Blood", and watch them blow the roof off the place!
Also included is a host of extras, including two additional concerts, each one a 7-song set, one recorded at the 2003 Metalmania show, and the other from 2004 opening for Metallica and Slipknot in front of thousands of fans in an outdoor stadium. Even though most of the songs on all three shows are basically the same, each is still a brutal affair and a perfect example of intense, technical death metal. You also get some interviews with the band members and plenty of other extras. Essential viewing for extreme metal fans of all ages!
