Weltenbrand: The End of the Wizard

Lichtenstein's Weltenbrand return from a five year hiatus with The End of the Wizard, the band's fifth release. Featuring a new female singer this time around in Dina Zambelli, The End of the Wizard once again sees the bands gothic and symphonic style take flight, as the music is filled with lush keyboard soundscapes, pulsating rhythms, and waves of male and female vocals. As intoxicating as the music may be, after repeated listens much of the music here will simply lull you to sleep, as none of the songs really distinguish themselves from each other. Every so often you will expect some guitar riff to crash into the mix, but it never happens. A little bombast would go a long way here if Weltenbrand ever want to compete with the Leaves' Eyes and Ellis' of the world, but there's none to be had here.

However, if you dig ethereal, operatic music, then The End of the Wizard just might fit the bill for you. The music here has more appeal to progressive rock fans that it does for the metal crowd, so you may want to grab some sound samples first to see what you think.
