Third Voice: A Day Like Today

Third Voice hail from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and have been around for a number of years. They started as a duo and released a couple demos early in their career. Their debut Reflections was released way back in 1998 followed by Moments Like These in 2002. 2016 brings us the band's third album A Day Like Today.

In the band are Jason Pirone (guitars, bass, synth), Jeff Kearney (vocals), Tony Rossi (drums) and Jeff Frankenstein (bass).

"Break" begins the disc with catchy guitar based grooves, powerful lead vocals and a nice guitar solo. The entire album is driven by Kearney's voice and the instrumental exploits of Pirone who also writes the music and lyrics as well as adding his expertise in mixing, recording and production.

The riffs in "Chosen" are more plodding and heavier at the beginning with a thicker overall sound. The tempo does pick as the rhythms become more off-kilter and the guitar solo is a real scorcher.

"Blinded" is similar in sound , showcasing the band's penchant for progressively tinged hard rock.

"Seasons Of My Soul" is much more atmospheric combining heavier elements with softer more acoustic led sections. There is a bit of fates Warning in this one.

The music does have a spiritual component as all the band members refer to God in the liner notes but the lyrics are not overtly religious in case that is a concern for you.

Third Voice has made an accessible hard rock album that should appeal to many listeners across the board. Even if you are not into progressive rock you should give it a listen if heavier rock suits your fancy.

A Day Like Today is an independent release so show your support and check these guys out.
