AHTME: The Demonization

AHTME has most recently been known as The Roman Holiday and The Demonization is a reissue of materials that were unofficially released to fans (and online) back in 2009. With this release, the band rebrands itself completely; it also marks the band's debut with Unique Leader Records. Many fans of technical death metal already know what they're getting with this one: tight and precise technical death metal played impressively. The first single from this album, "The Sentinel's Order" is also one of the first songs the band wrote together. The lyrics examine what happens when human behavior is let loose without social constraints, a common theme on this album. There's quite a bit of violence in the lyrics, but I get the sense that it's mostly tongue-in-cheek stuff. For me, the best track was "Blood Turned to Saline," a song that highlights some of the best riffs, breakdowns, and guitar harmonies. I also thought "The Demonization" and "Humanity Laid to Rest" were strong. Fans of tightly-wound technical death metal will want to check this one out.
