Voodoo Circle: Whisky Fingers

Four albums in, and Alex Beyrodt's Voodoo Circle show no signs of letting up on the Whitesnake, Deep Purple, and Rainbow love, and you know what, that's quite ok with me. Along with vocalist David Readman, bassist/vocalist Mat Sinner, and new recruits Alessandro del Vecchio (keyboards, vocals) and Francesco Jovino (drums), Beyrodt once again gives the fans classic sounding, bluesy hard rock & metal that draws from the well of the three legendary bands mentioned above. If their previous three albums didn't move you, well, not a lot has changed here, but, if they did, prepare to once again be amazed at the wealth of memorable songs, ripping guitar work, and cocky swagger that this band brings to the table.

Let's be honest, "Trapped in Paradise", "Heartbreaking Woman", and "Watch And Wait (I Got My Eye On You)" could easily sit on any of Whitesnake's '80s albums, with Readman's potent David Coverdale inspired bluesy roar straddling next to Beyrodt's John Sykes-meets-Ritchie Blackmore guitar pyrotechnics, the latter song even going so far as to aping a few lines from a couple of classic Whitesnake songs (listen and see if you can spot them). Why not even even include a song with the same title as an old Whitesnake track? Sure, it's here in the form of "Medicine Man", though Voodoo Circle's song is much more metallic, complete with gutsy riffs and swirling Hammond organ. "Heart of Stone" and "The Day the Walls Came Down" are catchy melodic ballads, while "Straight Shooter", "Devil Takes Me Down", and " 5 O'Clock" are hard rocking anthems with memorable choruses, powerful vocals, crisp rhythms, and tasty guitar work.

While I don't think Whisky Fingers has topped the impeccable More Than One Way Home from 2013, it's still a damn good album from Voodoo Circle and shows they still have plenty of tricks up their sleeves. Keep it coming guys!
