Adrenechrome: Hideous Appetite

Adrenechrome are a Metal quartet that hails from Ontario, Canada and delivers their Metal in a straight up kind of way. Varying from the classic heavy tones of a Black Sabbath or a Corrosion of Conformity and a more modern sound of a band like Mastodon, Adrenechrome manage to give the listener "No Frills" Hard Rock/Metal.

This 7 track EP is entitled, Hideous Appetites and features some Thin Lizzy styled twin lead guitar harmonies, made popular these days via Mastodon, along with some pretty kewl Stoner riffage. Songs range from a Thrasher of a song like "The Horror" to the heavy groove of "Locust Wings" to the sludgy "Six Guns", Adrenechrome cover some different territory across these 7 tracks, all the while still sounding pretty cohesive. The guitar riffs are thick throughout Hideous Appetites as you would expect coming from a Stoner Metal band type in all its 33 minutes of glory. The vocals are angst filled but still fully distinguishable and articulate, with the drumming also being a nice highlight, especially the Vinnie Paul type bashing on "Hobbled".

This is a good beginning for the young band, Adrenechrome. There is enough Headbanging elements for the Metal fan and also enough of that Stoner Rock riffing to please, as well. This is a pretty impressive recording debut from this Canadian band. They wear the flags of their influences close to the vest but not too close that it sounds like any of those bands. There is some pretty tight grooving going on here.
