Bony, Fabrice: Inner Lands

Fabrice Bony is a multi-instrumentalist from France. After he earned a music degree from the Centre Musical et Créatif de Nancy, he formed the blues trio Shotgun Blues and later toured with Ange, playing drums in support of the Dalai Lama album. His first album Between Day was released in 2008 and his latest Inner Lands is the subject of this review.

I have to say this was quite a find. Bony is a multi-talented player and he shows it throughout Inner Lands playing a multitude of instruments including drums, acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards, loops, bass and piano. It is an impressive accomplishment especially when you consider this is the work of one musician.

Starting with the lush sounding "Weird" with its interesting electric piano intro and excellent background vocals this album does not disappoint. "Isle Of Shadows" features a moodier guitar soundscape before turning into a melodic slice of symphonic prog. The short "Premonition" is a synth driven piece while "From Heart To Sky" is a heavier rocker with an interesting drum pattern and spacey electronics. Another melodic gem is the upbeat "Passenger Of Life" where the keys and guitar rhythms build into a real earworm. Great stuff.

Inner Lands is an excellent album of melodic symph driven progressive rock from a very talented musician and one who deserves to be heard. Highly recommended.
