Mothership: Mothership

Now this what I'm talkin' about! Some of the best stoner bands out there not only worship at the altar of the classic doom acts like Black Sabbath, Pentagram, and Saint Vitus, but also integrate all that is great about hard rockers like UFO, AC/DC, and Thin Lizzy as well as the Southern Rock legends such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blackfoot, ZZ Top, and Molly Hatchet. Mothership is one such band, as this Dallas, Texas collective have unleased a wonderful platter here of sweaty, groovy, and most importantly heavy rocking songs. This is footstompin', headbangin', fist pumpin', air guitar playin' stuff ladies and gentleman, and I dare anyone to not get their groove on to "Angel of Death", "City Nights", "Cosmic Rain", "Eagle Soars", "Win or Lose", or even the raging instrumental "Hallucination". Thick, heavy, raunchy blues-metal guitar riffs are all over the place, and with the swampy, beer soaked vocals and fat bottom end, you really can't go wrong with anything on this album. The awesome closer "Lunar Master" reminds of a mix between Iron Maiden and Thin Lizzy, and provides some cool galloping rhythms and scorching lead guitar moments.

Mothership have pushed all the right buttons for this listener, and one can only think that perhaps they've just scratched the surface here. More please!
