Trakooma: Demented Brutality

Before you go any further, take a quick look at the album cover over on the right. Can you read the band's name on the cover? Nope, neither can I! That can only mean one thing and that's that we are heading off into Death Metal territory. Something that the half destroyed, naked figure on the cover and the albEP (I'm not sure if seven songs running at round the half hour mark constitutes an EP or full blown album????) cover and title of Demented Brutality confirm.

As debut offering go, Demented Brutality from Trakooma (for it is this illegible name that is sprawled on the cover) isn't half bad, with the Finnish five-piece knocking out some rough and ready riffs that blister along at break neck pace. The drummer is pinpoint perfect and nails ever hammer blow into the ground. From the there the growls of Kristo Sundstrom grind convincingly and the twin guitar work courtesy of Kim Tuominen and Samu Pasanen torment and torture, dishing out pain with a glint in their eyes! The pairing are amazingly precise with the six string work, with the finger fret blurrying flurries on the likes of "Tormented By Disbelief", almost landing in shredder territory. In fact if it wasn't for the grappling bass, heavy breathing drum work and joyously evil vocals, you'd swear it was Vinnie Moore, or Tony MacAlpine tearing out these solos.

Unusually for pretty straight on Death Metal, some of the seven tracks here are pretty lengthy (five minute or so), meaning that the odd song such as "Hold Your Hate", or the release's title track, slightly outstay their welcome. However on the whole this is an impressive release, suggesting that Trakooma have a bright and bloody future ahead of them.
