Karnak Seti: In Harmonic Entropy

Let's face it Portugal is not what we would call a hot bed for metal bands; it could do with an inspirational band to rise through with a clenched metal fist. So it comes as no surprise that Karnak Seti with their second full length offering, In Harmonic Entropy, have exploded back with a prime slab of Scandinavian influenced metal. Yes I know Portugal is nowhere near Scandinavia but hell, it sounds like these guys have been reading directly from the book of In Flames & Soilwork. 'Only Red Mist Descends' is punchy and precise, the guitars and production offer new depths of much needed crunch. It's slightly industrial fast paced delivery ensures that it stands up to all the other modern metal offerings out there. 'Stranded By Existence' has some glorious guitar work as does most of the album, which has come as a complete surprise. With an absolute metal vocal delivery this album has taken quite a few spins to fully realize what an achievement it is. Karnak Seti have delivered something that will appeal to many fans of the Gothenburg style of metal, sometimes things just take you completely unawares and In Harmonic Entropy is one of those albums.

Karnak Seti: In Harmonic Entropy

My Score:

Hailing from Madeira Island in Portugal is the Melodic Death Metal band, Karnak Seti, with their CD entitled, In Harmonic Entropy. This 9 song disc is a modern sounding record filled with melodic overtones and heavy, riff filled rhythmic chugging with both Cookie Monster and Hard Core-esque vocals. Coupled with some cool and intricate musical fare, fans of bands like Mercenary,Communic and Children of Bodom will find Karnak Seti right up their alley.

In Harmonic Entropy has traces of MetalCore as well as being steeped in the modern era of Melo death Metal. Choruses are catchy, while still being heavy and the verses are tight as hell and powerful. Karnak Seti apply the gas throughout most of this effort but are also full of diverse changes. A song like the CD closer, "Collateral Dreams", is a perfect example of the level of musicianship that these possess. Other tracks like "Long Gone Shadow", "Golden Age of Downfalls" and "Loss" all show the heavy and sometime progressive style of Karnak Seti.

Overall, this is a really solid modern day Metal record filled with tastes of a few different sub genres. Their musicianship is great, as well as the CD production and their songs. A modern era Metal fan should be right at home with this record. In Harmonic Entropy is familiar enough that is might come across as a bit generic but they still sound very much their own. Check out Karnak Seti's In Harmonic Entropy, it is a good listen.
